Residents of an historic Kingsport neighborhood used Sonic Foundry’s Mediasite rich media system to record the four-hour event, edit it to an hour-long excerpt and post it on a local music website. Word of mouth about the concert recording spread, overloading local server capacity and forcing the fundraiser’s promoters to seek an alternative hosting provider.
Six regional bluegrass bands donated their time and talents for a Labor Day benefit concert, conceived the Friday before Labor Day as a way to raise money for hurricane victims. Tim Siglin, a co-founder of consulting / market research firm Transitions, Inc., also lives in the neighborhood and was enlisted two days before the event to help spread news of the concert online.
More than 250 people attended the live event, raising over $5,000; an additional $1,000 has been raised since the show went online.
