The shift from the central processing chip to the graphics chip looks like one of the more likely technology changes to bet on in recent years, said Tim Siglin, a a business and technology consultant to startup companies.

"The GPU already sits in every computer out there," he said. "You've got a whole lot of extra, unused horsepower on the graphics card."

"Much like Windows made computer operation visually intuitive, the software in these systems makes video production visually intuitive, so you don't have to be an expert to do it," said Tim Siglin, a contributing editor for Streaming Media.

However, Mr. Siglin noted, system operators better be prepared to work hard.

"These systems don't just allow one person to produce a show," Mr. Siglin said.
